Pan Pun De Sand “Sweet Fuh Days”





Pan Pun De Sand takes place on the beautiful island of Barbados. It is the largest beach party of the year! It is a part of the calendar for one of the many National Cultural Foundation (NCF) events scheduled for the Crop Over Festival Season.

It begins in the afternoon normally around 3 p.m. with a pre-show that includes a Steel Orchestra. The main showcase will get under way shortly afterwards with a number of acts scheduled to perform. The event concludes just a little after 10 pm. It is 4 Times the Steel, 4 Times the Soca and 4 Times the Sweetness.

What more can you ask for? This event is a blast of steel Pan music and entertainment at the well-known Brandon’s Beach, Brighton, Spring Garden, St. Michael. This particular beach possesses a wonderful expanse of white sand that is perfect for lazing and sunbathing.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for renting, and there are conveniently placed changing facilities, toilets, showers and public telephones. There are a few rock and reef formations but the water at is generally calm and safe for swimming.

There is a lifeguard on duty and further safety measures include a number of beach security personnel. It should therefore come as no surprise that such a venue in is chosen time after time for this event. This event integrates the fullness of beach life along with the alluring rhythms of sweet Pan music.

This event is part of a weekend pan-extravagant hosted by the NCF. There is more than plenty Pan on Brandon’s Beach on Sunday to cap the three-day Pan events put on by the NCF. The sweet sounds of the Steel Pan is echoed throughout the island for a weekend in mid-July  as the NCF stages major “Pan-tastic” concerts.

For the weekend which is feature prominently on the Crop Over calendar of events. The first event to kick start the weekend is the First Citizens Pan Fusion Pantasy – which is generally held on the grounds of Ilaro Court. The second event is the Pan in De City cruise from Bridgetown to Speightstown, which customary sets sail at 4 p.m.

The last day of the Pan-tastic events, which is the most popular event with  hundreds of patrons, is the  Massy Pan Pun De Sand. During this event the sweet sounds of Pan fills the air at Brandons Beach as people file in with chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.

The beach is filled with food baskets, umbrellas, coolers and chairs, it is a family affair for many who use the day to have a picnic. You can expect to see parents with toddlers in strollers and children ranging from tots to teens. The scorching sun provides a rapid trade for sno-cone vendors, along with food stalls that serve refreshments and food.

They are all there to take in the staging of this pan extravagant which can be described as  – sweet, steel, sand and Soca. It is pure medley magic as the more than 40-member band shuts down the show on the last day of the three-day Pan extravaganza.




 

For over seven hours there is nothing but Pan, delightful Pan, as local talent takes centre stage. This event is  a spectacular musical. ​It highlights the best of our  top musicians performing various genres of music.

This event has grown in leaps and bounds over the years and as such, thousands each year  join together at Brandons Beach. This event has been able to appeal to thousands who are captivated by the very best of both local and regional Steel Pan bands on the beach. Colour, creed, class and age all show themselves up at this event.

The energy is phenomenal and the relaxed ambiance simply foreshadows well for an evening out with family and friends. It is no wonder that Crop Over in Barbados is considered “Sweet Fuh Days.”
